B.A., BCL, LL.B.
Alex is an associate practicing primarily in construction and commercial litigation. He has a particular interest in insurance coverage claims and surety disputes and has represented two major Canadian surety companies in a variety of complex construction projects across British Columbia and Alberta. Alex has represented clients in the British Columbia Supreme Court, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, the Cour supérieure du Québec and the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
Alex was born in the Winter Olympics hamlet of Lake Placid, New York and lived in Colorado and Florida before attending the University of Florida on an academic scholarship where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. After graduating from the University of Florida, Alex worked for the nationally renowned U.S. trial attorney Dorothy Clay Sims and assisted her in preparing for the cross examinations of defense-side medical experts.
Alex then went on to attend McGill University’s Faculty of Law where he obtained his Bachelor of Common Law (LL.B.) and Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) degrees. He was chosen to represent McGill at the Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot where he competed against over 350 law schools from around the world and received an honourable mention for best oralist.
After law school Alex articled with one of Canada’s Seven Sister law firms in Montreal before moving to Vancouver in 2016 to be closer to family and start his career as a litigator. In March 2022 Alex moved to Kelowna and joined Pihl Law Corporation. He was keen to move to the Okanagan for better access to skier’s paradise, the “Powder Highway”.
When not in the office you can find Alex skiing, cycling and sailing. He dreams of one day owning a piece of a vineyard in Naramata.
